The tapestries of Madeleine Colaço

 

Short Biography 

French, naturalised Brazilian, born in Morocco in 1907 of French-American  parents.

Married to the Portuguese writer Ribeiro Colaço, the couple emigrated to Brazil in 1940.

She studied the art of tapestry and invented a new embroidery stitch called the

"Brazilian stitch" that she registered in Lausanne (Switzerland) at the

"International Ancient and Modern Tapestry Centre".

Has had several International Exhibitions since 1963.

Has works in many museums and private collections.

Died in December 2001.
